For this Summer Learning Journey Kickstart Activity, I was challenged to choose 2 options to create a submarine which was using pen and paper or using a tool like google drawings. For this activity I watched 2 videos about how a submarine works and how to draw a submarine if you chose to draw it on paper and pen. I also read information about submarines and what happened back in the days. Something I found interesting about this activity was it helped me more about submarines. One challenging thing about this activity was it was hard to draw because there were lots of details. The colours I used for the submarine I created were yellow, gold, blue, white, red, grey and black. I added 3 circle windows, details in the ocean and bubbles.
3 facts about submarine:
- Submarines can go deep than 2,600 feets.
- The first submarine was invented by David Bushnell in 1775.
- Submarines can stay underwater for weeks or months without surfacing.
Questions:
- Do you like submarines?
- Have you ever experience to be in one?
- What’s your favourite activity?

Kia ora Brooke,
Ms Elena from the Manaiakalani Team here. Great job on your submarine activity! I love how you used different colours and described the process of adding details like the windows and bubbles.
You mentioned that submarines can go deeper than 2,600 feet – can you imagine how deep that is? That’s about 792 meters, which is deeper than the height of the Burj Khalifa in Dubai (the tallest building in the world) and about 3 times the height of the Auckland Sky Tower!
Your facts were really interesting, and I especially liked learning that submarines can stay underwater for weeks or months. That’s pretty impressive! Your questions at the end are great – I think it would be fun to ask people if they’ve ever seen a submarine in real life or if they’d like to ride in one!
Keep up the great work, and I look forward to seeing more of your fantastic projects! Ka pai!
Ms Elena

I was about to say the same thing! I can imagine that it’s deeper than the Auckland Sky Tower. I think it’s about 800 meters? Yes! When I post another blog I would try and ask more specific questions.
Regards,
Brooke

Hi Brooke
My name is Marii
I go to St Patrick’s school panmure
Your drawing looks so good.
No offence but at first I thought that you searched it up.
Then I realised that their were a few spots that did not look like it was from google.
What made you choose this activity?
What would you use a Submarine for.
I would go search for rare creatures down in trenches.
I hope you have fun with the rest of the SLJ
I hope you have a great Holiday with the rest of your family.
