Mount Wellington

Our challenge was to use our smart researching skills to find 5 facts about the mount wellington/maungarei. We also researched about Volcanic peak and Crater, for example: a Volcanic peak is a mountain that has a hole in the middle that could entertain lava or a volcano. As you can see we went into groups of 6. My group and I found 2 interesting photos of what it looks like.

I enjoyed doing this task because I get to experience lots of facts about them and what it looks like.

Provocation

LI : To evaluate the facts and make an informed opinion.

A Provocation is an action or speech that triggers strong feelings about a topic. Our Provocation for this topic was, did the punishment fit the crime? We read an information explaining the crime that 2 men have stole. Here is a question for you: Do you think the punishment fit the crime? We came up with a short summary explaining the information we’ve learnt. We came up with our own opinion using our own words and made 2 perspectives,  called perspective A and B.

For this activity I found it really fun because we got to learn about what happened to the victoria cross.

Samoa Language week

Our challenge was using our smart searching skills to find out interesting facts about Samoa Tatau. We created a DLO about Samoa language week and read through the answers. We answered the question by researching them and finding information that we understand. For example : why is it important to get a Tatau the traditional way? Our answered we understand was, it is important to get a Tatau  (tattoo) done the traditional way because it’s  the support your family and your community that get you through tough times.

I enjoyed learning about Samoa language week because it helps us understand about Samoa and what it’s like.

Swamp Tiger

LI: to create a multi-modal DLO that tells others about swamp tigers.

Our challenged was to gather information about the swamp tiger and to create a multi-modal DLO that tells others about swamp tigers. In pairs we used our smart searching skill to find out about their topics which are appearance, diet, habitat, and behaviour. We created a Google slide explaining to others about their topics and interesting facts about them. For example: did you know that swamp tigers can grow up to 13 feet in length? We then gathered with another pair and present to them our presentation.

I enjoyed learning about swamp tigers because I’ve learnt lots of new interesting facts about them.

Expectations in the classroom

This DLO explains our class expectations, rules, how they relate to the CARE Values, and why rules are important. A few of our class expectations or rules, are “Asking questions and “finishworks/blogs on a high level”. Another important rule is “To use the appropriate noise level at appropriate times”. The Care Values are Confidence, Attitude, Respect, and Excellence. The CARE Values can relate to our Class Expectations. Here is an example, “Be quiet when the teacher is talking”.

I enjoyed this activity because I learnt ways of how our rules, and class expectations relate to others and CARE Values.

3D shapes – strand

LI: How 3D shapes are defined.

3D shapes are shapes that have 3 dimensions, length, width, and height. Properties of shapes are what shapes own. Like: faces, edges, and vertices (corners). For this activity we drew 3D shapes in our strand books, and wrote its properties. An example for this is : a circle has 0 faces, 0 corners, and 0 edges.

I enjoyed this task because I learnt about the properties of lots of 3D shapes.

Howick Historical Collage

LI: to make a collage about the howick historical village.

For this activity we went on a trip to the Howick Historical Village as a group with the LS block. We were separated in groups, I was in group 1. We went to the first activity which was just exploring the houses from Panmure, Manukau, Otahuhu, Onehunga and other places. Next we moved into making trolleys/go karts. In this activity we get to learn how to build and what the mens and women had to do back in the days. Lastly we moved to making the butter. We sang a quote which was “turn butter turn, (Someone’s Name) waiting at the gate, waiting for some butter cake turn butter turn. My DLO shows what we have been learning and what we have been doing.

I enjoyed the experience at Howick historical village because we got to know what was going on back in the days and learned lots of new experiences.

Haiku Poem

We were challenged to write a Haiku poem about how Maui slowed the sun. A haiku poem are short japanese poems with a fixed pattern of  three lines and 17 syllables. The first line has 5 syllables, the second line has 7 syllables and the  last line has 5 syllables. Syllables is a chunk of  word, for example the syllables in started is star-ted.

This activity was interesting because I learnt how a haiku poem is structured and what syllables are.

Algorithm Addition

We was challenged to use addition algorithm to solve addition problems. On my DLO it shows an explanation on how to solve addition algorithm. When doing algorithm addition it is important to remember to carry the 1 if the number is bigger than 9 and place it to the next column. As you can see above my DLO it shows why algorithm addition is important to learn.

I found this task fun and interesting because knowing how to solve addition problems when using algorithms is easier to use than other strategies.

Water Safety

LI: to make a poster or animation about water safety

For this task we learnt about water safety and how a life jacket works when you are in a situation in the water. Water safety helps people stay safe and warm inside the water. As you know life jackets are very useful for surviving in the water which dose’nt contain drowning, not knowing how to swim, and lots of different dangerous ways of being inside the water.

Thank you to the AUT Millennium for teaching us how to stay safe in the water when we are in a dangerous situation.

I enjoyed this task because we learnt how to stay safe in the water and what life jackets do.
