Who was Samuel Marsden?

LI: To use our smart searching skills to find out who Samuel Marsden was and what he is known for.

For this activity, we used our smart searching skills to research facts about Samuel Marsden and who he is. A sentence we found out was that Samuel Marsden was the first known Christian lesson on land in New Zealand was preached by Marsden at Oihi Bay in the 1814s. For the facts we used two different websites, the website I used were Wikipedia and Padlet. Something interesting I found out about Samuel Marsden was he was an English minister of the Church of England. I learnt its is important to use my own words because we won’t know what it means.

Kokako

LI: To use our smart searching skills

At camp, the year 7/8 was at the Kokako Lodge in Hunua. Our challenge for Inquiry was to create an infographic DLO to explain about the Kokako Bird by using our smart searching skills. The 4 topics we needed to find were their Habitat, Diet, Appearance, science name and one interesting fact. Something I found interesting about their appearance is that they play a musical song in their body.

Working in groups

LI: To understand that everyone has a role to play when we are working in groups

For Reading, we learn best when we learn from and with each other. Our responsibility as a group member is to collaborate and communicate with one another and working in a group helps us understand more about the text. One thing that is important is talking because we can grab ideas from one another and learn about new things we haven’t heard before. Something I enjoy during working in a group is getting able to understand and write down notes to bring together and share.

Kauri Dieback

LI: To understand what Kauri dieback is and how it spreads

For this activity, we was challenged to use our smart searching skills and find out about what Kauri Dieback is and how we can stop this from spreading around. We got into pairs and started collabrating and communicating with other groups to find information and grab ideas. We need to know about this so that we do our part to keep our Kauri safe when we go on hike at camp. I worked with Melle and we found it interesting that the diseases can have a devastating effect on the Kauri Dieback trees and the forest ecosystem that always relies on them.

Evolution of the NZ Flag

LI: To understand the story behind our flag.

For this activity, we were discorvering the national flags that was representing New Zealand overtime. We managed to get into pairs and collabrated together to create ideas about the flags that have been changed over the past years. Something I found interesting is that the British flag that is on the New Zealand flag represents the Union Jacks reflects New Zealand’s origin as a British colony in 1865.

What Learning Should Look Like in LS2

LI: To co-construct ways we can make the most of our learning time in LS2

For this activity, we learned about the expectations in our class. In a group of 3 we dicussed about how we could make the most of our learning time just like taking part of the learning so everyone can learn new things. To be able to do this we expect to communicate, collabrate and making right choices. I collaborated with other groups which I enjoyed because we get to grab ideas from each other and communicate. This activity was fun and helpful because we get to know what the expectation are so we can achieve to make the most of our learning time.

SLJ – Rainbow Fish – Kickstart

For this Summer Learning Journey KickStart Activity, I listened to a story called The Rainbow Fish by Marcus Pfister. Something that was interesting was that the book was published years ago in the 1900s. I was challenged to draw my own Rainbow Fish swimming in the ocean with other sorts of fish around it. For this challenge I used Adobe Express for the background of fishes and I traced my own Rainbow Fish which is on the bottom. I traced the Rainbow fish by using the curving tool and used all of the rainbow fish but for the scales I used circles for some. The colours I used for this activity were different colours of blue, orange, pink, light purple, grey and green. But for the tails I used a colour that was mixed together which was light purple and light blue to make it like a type of mermaid colour.

Something that I enjoyed about this activity was making the Rainbow Fish because I like looking at different colours.

Something that was difficult in this activity was finding a background for the Rainbow Fish to be in because there were some that didn’t match and some that did.

Something that I found interesting that I found out about fishes was that most fishes don’t have eyelids except for sharks.

Questions :

  • Have you seen a Rainbow Fish? Would you love to meet one?
  • What’s your favourite Subject?
  • What do you think about this activity?

SLJ – Make a splash -Kickstart

For this Summer Learning Journey Kickstart Activity,I watched a video about a Water Obstacle Course in real life. Something interesting I found in the video is that it’s very big and how people can make it to the end! The items I would include in a water obstacle course would be a big slide, monkey bars and other sorts of things that are already included in the original. For this Activity I was challenged to design my own Water Obstacle Course. The option was to design on google drawing, google slides, scratch, Canva or anything. I picked Adobe Express because it has lots of options to design or generate. I designed this course by writing down the list of things I need for my water obstacle course and it came out to look like this.

Something that I found fun about this activity was designing this water obstacle course because it had lots of options and it already looks fun with the slides and monkey bars.

Something that I found was difficult was the description (telling what to add) because it was so hard to find a picture that looks like a water obstacle course.

Questions :

  • Have you been on a Water Obstacle Course before? Would you like to go to one?
  • What’s your favourite thing to do in the holidays?
  • What’s your favourite subject?

SLJ – The Manu Splash – Step it up

For this Summer Learning Journey Step it up activity, I watched 3 videos about how to manu, big manu splashes, picture help, background remove, animation help and an example. I also researched how a manu looks to make my character position the same. I was challenged to make a real manu, movie, animation, or yourself doing one. I picked animation because it’s way easier. For this activity I created a google slide and started creating waves in different colours of blue. I also created planks for the people to jump off, ladders for people to climb up and a character. For the waves I created it by using the curve tool, ladder by using the polyline tool and shapes for the plank.

I enjoyed doing this activity because it was so fun to create and use new tools.

SLJ – The Manu Splash – Kickstart

For this Summer Learning Journey Kickstart Activity, I watched 3 videos about a head dunk, big manu splashes and google draw splash which is the important video. I was challenged to make a copy of the google draw template and to make splash shapes, layer them and build my splash. To create the splashes we got to use the tool box and use curves. For this activity I used the background that was optional in the template to put the splashes on. I used 22 splashes for the activity and layered them together to make it realistic.

I enjoyed doing this activity because it’s really fun and it helped me create my own manu splash just by watching the videos.
