Empathy

This week for PB4L we learned about Empathy.

Empathy is the ability to understand and share the feelings of another & experiences. For example : someone will say “he has a total lack of empathy for anybody”.

First we had to watch a video called Mojo the Director that introduced us to the importance of empathy. For example : Mojo felt embarrassed because Sarah quitted the play group.

Next we had to contribute to a  Jamboard that is about empathy and answering the questions about what we watched. For example : I said ” it is important to have and use empathy because it gives you the ability to understand and share feelings with each other”.

Lastly we had to create a poster explaining what empathy is and what it looks like in the classroom. For example : empathy is the ability to understand and share the feelings of another & experiences.

Burbes & Runs

This week I learned about Burbes.

Burbes is where you start with a jump squat and get into your starting position with both of your feet flat on the floor. get into a blank position. Do a Push-up on your toes and to jump back to your feet & repeat.

First we started off with a warm up exercise. For the warm up we had to go up to 10 all the way to 2. For example : You would do 10 runs, 10 burbes, 8 runs, 8 burbes, 6 runs, 6 burbes, 4 runs, 4 burbes, and 2 runs, 2 burbes.

Next we had to find a partner to practise doing the runs and burbes. For my partner it was Me and Armani. Me and Armani started to do runs and burbes. For the runs we had to run all the way to the yellow line and back to the cones by doing burbes.

Then Miss Morris picked the partners to do it with again. She picked Me and Lila to do it. Me and Lila were doing it right until we were the 4th person but we said it doesn’t really matter.

Lastly we had to do them all together again. We had 30 burbes but at the same time. For example: If Valencia was my partner we would wait until the teacher tells all of the people to do 1 Burbes and then 2 Burbes all the way up to 30.

I enjoyed doing this kind of PE. I did well at doing the runs and burbes. I need to improve on moving faster.

SSR Selfie

This week I learned about SSR Selfie.

SSR stands for Sustanied Silent Reading. Sustained silent reading is where students read silently read in school and out of school.

First I had to choose a book and had to read the book for 10 minutes. For example  : I picked a book called goosebumps and I decieded to read it for 10 minutes.

Next I had to write down the main characters that were in the book that you talked about. The main characters were Sonny, Slappy, Sarah, Mum, and Dad.

Then I had to write down the illustrations of the person who wrote the story in words. For example : the illustrations is Rob Lieber.

Lastly I had to list 3 new words I don’t know in my own meanings. For example : I picked dangerous and said “Dangerous is something bad that happened often”.

I enjoyed doing this task. I did well at listing 3 words in my own meanings. I need to improve on writing something down basic.

Basic Facts Boxes

This week I did Basic Facts Boxes.

First I had to pick a subject befores putting in the answer. For example : There are +, -, x, and divisions. I picked multiplication because I think it’s a great way to start.

Next I had to pick a random to start with or order to start with. I picked an order to start with easy and then random to end with hard.

Lastly I had to press check to see if my answer was correct. I got 100/100 because I have been learning my basic facts while I am away from school.

I enjoyed doing Basic Facts Boxes. I did well at figuring out the answer. I need to improve on doing divisions next.

Figurative Language

This week we have been learning about figurative Language in poetry. Figurative Language is the use of non-literal phrases or words to create further meaning in writing or speech.

First we had to think about in a group what figurative language, a simile, a metaphor, a hyperbole, and an idiom is. A Simile is to figure a speech involving one thing. A metaphor is a thing regarded as something else. A hyperbole is a state or claims that are not meant to be taken literally. For example : I can eat a horse. And an idiom is a group of words by using individual words.

Next we had to write down 3 sentences using metaphors. Metaphors are non – literal. For example : Life is a highway. Her eyes were diamonds. He is a shining star.

Then we had to write down 3 similes we could use to describe this red character. The name of the movie is called turning red. For the 3 similes I wrote down. He was a red panda. She’s so fluffy like a cat and she has magic.

Afterwards, I had to choose a character to write down 3 sentences about using similes or metaphors. I picked Matilda because I think it will be awesome and fun to write about.

Lastly I had to write 4 sentences using both similes and metaphors to describe what it would feel like on a rollercoaster.

I enjoyed doing this task for writing. I did well at describing the red panda. I need to improve on writing down more similes and metaphors.

Evaluation about Animal Testing

This week for reading I learned about Evaluation and Animal Testing.

Evaluation is to look and to think about both sides of an issue. Animal testing is a type of experiment that uses animals to study the development and progress of diseases.

First I had to think about what is animal testing in a group. Animal testing is a type of experiment that uses animals to study the development and progress of diseases. For example : Someone that works for animal testing will catch an animal and test them of the diseases.

Next I had to also think about what evaluation is. Evaluation is to think about both sides of an issue. An issue is an important topic or problem for a discussion. For example : I will talk about cats and dogs but it might be important.

Then I had to talk about whether animal testing is good or bad in a group. For animal testing I said it’s bad for them to get tested because they could be affected by it and will die and get sick.

After I had to write down the yes and no of animal testing. I said ” Yes they should do animal testing because animals like cats or dogs need to live like humans and be healthy”. For now I said ” No they should not do animal testing on animals because they would die and get sick”.

Lastly, I had to write down my opinion about animal testing. I had to write down 3 sentences. For the 3 sentences I said for one of them ” I think that it’s bad for them to get animal testing because drugs that are tested on animals also have low rates which is 92 percent and it’s dangerous for them”.

I enjoyed learning about animal testing and evaluation. I did well at writing down my opinion. I need to improve on adding more details about animal testing.

Rippa Rugby – HPE

This week we learned how to play Rippa rugby. Rippa Rugby is a game for young rugby players, usually from the ages of 5 to 7. It is a very safe, non-contact, easy-to-play game for both boys and girls alike. For example : If you are 5 to 10 or older you will be allowed to play.

How to play : To complete a ‘rip’ one of the two flags from the ball carriers belt must be removed. The only person who can be ripped is the ball carrier.

First we had to get into colour teams. The colours were red & Yellow. Coach Trey taps the person on the shoulder and tells which colour you are. I got a touch on the shoulder and I was in the red team.

Next we played a warm up throw. I had to run up and throw the ball to the person next to me and then the next person throws it to the other person. We always dropped the ball but when we practised more and more we finally catched the ball without dropping it. For example  : Someone on my right will be next to me and when I run up the person on my right has to run up and catch the ball without dropping it.

Lastly we played a real game of Rippa rugby. I had to play against the yellows since I was in the red team. I had the ball and tried to make it to the end. I made it to the end and everyone started to get mad but Coach Trey said it was just a game.

I enjoyed playing Rippa Rugby. I did well at putting the ball on the floor at the end. I need to improve on not winning since it’s a game.

Lastly I had to make a DLO about plastic pollution. For example : I will talk about why plastic pollution is bad?

I enjoyed doing this task. I did well at talking about plastic pollution. I need to improve on adding more ideas.
