HPE

This week for HPE we learned about HPE Mix sport.

HPE stands for health and physical education.

First, Coach Lucas picked people to go to the red cone or blue cone. Coach Lucas picked me to go to blue cone. For example : If the person next to me was picked to go to the red cone. Coach Lucas will pick me to go to the blue cone.

Next, when we were all in our teams Coach Lucas had 2 equiment. The hockey ball, and soccor ball. The first game was soccor ball.

Lastly, Coach Lucas will think of how much people who play each equiment. For example : Coach Lucas will say “4 soccor people”. When he says that 4 people who run around the cones and try to score the ball to the others team goal. The team who won was blue team.

I enjoyed playing HPE. I did well at listening to the coach. I need to improve on running faster and triyng to goal for our team to get a score.

Matariki

This week for inquiry we learned how to understand the meaning of matariki and to identify the stars of the matariki. For example : Matariki is a type of celebration.

The meaning of matariki is the Maori name for the cluster of stars also known as the pleiades it also are tiny eyes or eyes of god” and is celebrated in june when a small group of stars called Pleiades rises above the horizon, bringing the old year to a close and starting a new year.

First, we had to discuss in a group what matariki is and means. The meaning of matariki is the mario name for the cluster of stars also known as the pleiades it also are tiny eyes or eyes of god” and is celebrated in june when a small group of stars called Pleiades rises above the horizon, bringing the old year to a close and starting a new year.

Next, Miss Tele’a told us to make a copy of a google slide that talks about matariki and to do some activites on the google slide. We had to pick 2 or 3 actijvites to do. The options were to research the history of iwi and hapu who first settled near a river, lake or wetlands closet to you, find a calender of tides and explore ideal swimming and fishing times, design a contraption to collect rainwater, find out what contributes to air pollution, learn the best time to grow vegetables, find a recipe using fruits and berries, set personal or learnign goals, in Google Docs, write a memoir of a loved one OR remember loved ones we have lost (this could include pets), or to plan an event with loved ones.

Lastly, I picked “In Google Docs, write a memoir of a loved one OR remember loved ones we have lost (this could include pets)”. I wrote down memories about my nana. I said ” My favourite memory about my wonderful nana is that she used to look after me when I was little and play with each other. The sad part I’m gonna miss is her smile that she always has on her face and bathing me when I was born. I love the way she talks to me about stuff our family doesn’t know. My Nana always goes somewhere and I ask her “Nana can I come” and she said yes. She is the bravest, and kindest person in the world.”

I enjoyed doing this task. I did well at explanning what matariki is. I need to improve on adding more activites.

This my document about memories about my nana!

Maths Problem

This week for Miss White’s Math’s group we learned about how to answer word problems and showing how we worked (solved) the problem.

Math’s Problem is a mathematical problem is a question that needs a solution and can be represent, analyzed, and possibly solved, with the methods of mathematics.

First, we had to discuss in our math group what maths problem is. Math’s Problem is a mathematical problem is a question that needs a solution and can be represent, analyzed, and possibly solved, with the methods of mathematics. For example: 2000+204 = 2204.

Next, we had to answer some questions and write down how I worked out the answers. For example : I used multiplication. 6 x 4 = 24, 6 x 20 = 120, 24 + 120 = 144.

Then, Miss White showed us a google slide called Maths Problems. In the google slide it shows us that we had to solve or fix the problem so our teacher knows which one we are stuck on. For example : if a box of pencils contains 24 pencils, how many are in 6 boxes. I got stuck on this one until I realised I had to use addition, multiplication, division, and takeaways.

Lastly, when we solved all of the questions there was this next slide and we had to find a partner to do it with. I had to write down easy, hard, or medium maths questions for my partner to answer like I’m challenging him.

I enjoyed doing this task. I did well at typing the questions for my partner. I need to improve on showing them more information of how I worked it out.

Suspenseful

This week for Miss Tele’a writing group we learned about how to create a suspenseful beginning through imagery and dialogue.

Suspenseful means creating a feeling of excitement and uncertainty about what will happen next.

Imagery means using descriptive language to create vivid mental picture or sensory experiences.

Dialogue is a conversation between characters in a story or play. It helps reveal information, develop characters, and move the plot forward.

First, we had to discuss in a group what suspenseful means. Suspenseful means creating a feeling of excitement and uncertainty about what will happen next.

Next, Miss Tele’a showed us 2 different videos to watch, and we had to think what those videos has in common and the same thing. The first video was about a man at space jumping off at space. The second video was about one girl and one boy getting scared because there were 2 dinosaurs that were dangerous, and they tried to hide until they got caught from it and got chased.

After, we finished watching the movie Miss Tele’a gave us a whiteboard each for our teammate to figure out what the video has in common and the same thing. I said “They were going to die” because in the first video the person jumped off from space, they could have died and for the second video they were going to die because the 2 dinosaurs started to chase them which was scary. Vaingalo said “They almost got caught”.

Then, Miss Tele’a read out a story for us to imagery and write down what I could we could hear, see, feel, smell, taste, think. The story said “Wind howled through the night, carrying a scent that would change the world. A tall Shade lifted his head and sniffed the air. He looked human except for his crimson hair and maroon eyes. He blinked in surprise. The message had been correct: they were here. Or was it a trap? He weighed the odds, then said icily, “Spread out; hide behind trees and bushes. Stop whoever is coming . . . or die.”

We also had to imagine & write your own beginning. For example: The weather condition will be rain and wind – crashing and howling. Smell will be Air – coming in my nose Fresh, frosty, wind.

Lastly, we had to write down our own story by using our notes we were planning. For my story I said “The rain and wind crashed through the night carrying a smell of air that would change the world. A girl named Olivia lifted her head and opening her eyes. She looked like a human except for her maroon eyes and black hair. She blinked in surprise. The message had been correct: they were here. Or Am I going to die? He weighed the odds, then said “Come over here” “Okay I’m coming”.

I enjoyed doing this task about suspenseful. I did well at explaining what suspenseful mean. I need to improve on adding more details into my story I made.

This is my google slide (work) I made!

Basic Facts Boxes

This week for maths I learned about Basic Facts Boxes.

Basic Facts Boxes is a type of Math game that you sort out the answers. For example: 1+1=2.

First, I had to figure out which one I want to do for math’s. The options were plus, minus, and multiplications. I picked minus because I was thinking that it is the best way to start off with. I also had to pick another option. The options were, random, and order. I picked order because I think the same as minus.

Next, I had to start off by figuring out the answers for the math’s. The minus was easy for me. For example: 20-1= 19, 19-1=18.

Lastly, I had to press check when I finished answering the math problem. For example: when you finish answering your problem of math’s you had to press check to see if you got some wrong, some correct.

I enjoyed learning about basic facts boxes. I did well at answering the problems or solving the problems. I need to improve on moving on to the multiplications.

Visualizing

This week we learned about visualizing and how to create a mental picture using description.

Visualizing is to make a mental picture based on a description or text you have written about.

First, we had to discuss with our partner what visualizing is/mean. Visualizing is to make a mental picture based on a description or text you have written about.

Next, we had to make a copy of a document and write down a story for a partner to draw. We had to use adjective to help us describe the piece of work. For example: Olivia was so excited to visit Samoa. My partner will draw a girl being excited, and a land that looks like Samoa.

Lastly, my partner (Cattaleya) had to make a copy of a google draw that talks about the 4 different type of visualizing which are what can be seen, heard, felt, smelt (smell), or tasted. For example: If the story says, ” I can see trees”. The visualizing will be seen because it says you can see trees which belongs to the see section.

I enjoyed doing this task. I did well at explaning what visualizing is. I need to improve on adding more details onto the google draw.

Food Labels

This week for inquiry we learned about identifying the key components of a food label and reading and understanding food labels to make informed decisions about what we can eat.

Food Labels is any tag, brand, mark, pictorial or other descriptive matter, written, printed, stencilled, marked, embossed or impressed on, or attached to, a container of food or food product.

First, we had to discuss in a group what the food label is. Food label is any tag that is on a container or food product. In a group we took turns telling each other what the food label is.

Next, we had to make a copy of a google slide that talks about food labels and write down what they are and why it’s important. We also had to customise the google slide to my preference (colour, font, images, and food labels). For example: Is the amount of food listed on a product’s Nutrition Facts label, or food label. Different products have different serving sizes and the reason why it’s important is because Serving sizes can help you when choosing foods and when comparing similar items while shopping

Lastly, we had to show our teacher the information (google slide) about serving size, calorie count, nutritional facts, ingredients list, and allergies.

Maths Problems

This week for Miss White’s maths group we learned about maths problems and to answer word problems and show your working it out.

Maths Problem is a problem that can be represented, and possibly solved, with the methods of mathematics. For example : A train travels 240 km in 4 hours. What is the average speed of the train? The answer will be 60km.

First, we had to discuss in a group what maths problem is? Maths Problem is a problem that can be represented, and possibly solved, with the methods of mathematics.

I enjoyed doing this task. I did well at typing the questions for my partner. I need to improve on showing them more information of how I worked it out

Food Safety Article

This week for writing we learned about how to understand how we can ensure ingredients and food are safe to eat.

First, we had to choose three topics related to food safety that I find important or interesting. The topics are :

  • Perishable foods
  • Fresh fruits and vegetables
  • Dry goods
  • Canned and packaged foods
  • Leftovers and prepared meals
  • Labelling and Organisation (storage).

Next, we had to make a copy of a document to organise the research we were finding about the topics before I had to begin writing down information.

Then, we had to research the state the importance of proper food storage and its impact on food safety. Food poisoning is basically caused by bacteria from foods that have been incorrectly stored, prepared, handled or cooked. Food with poisoning bacteria may look, smell and taste normal. If food is not stored properly, the bacteria in it can multiply to dangerous levels.

Lastly, we had to write down information about the 3 topics into the columns. For example: Fresh vegetables and Fruits. Fruits and vegetables contain important vitamins. There are many fruits and vegetables available and many ways to prepare, cook and serve them. A diet high in fruit and vegetables can help protect you against cancer, diabetes and heart disease.

I enjoyed doing this task. I did well at researching the state the importance of proper food storage and its impact on food safety. I need to improve on adding more details into more information.

My Storybook

This week for reading we learned about an app called My Storybook.

My Storybook is an app that is for children that combines drawing, stickers, photos, voices, text to use language, and creativity in a multi-page book.

First, I had to read a book called The Great Hill by Dainel Errico & illustrated by Dawn Hill. The Great hill talks about the Yolks, who live at the top of the Great Hill. For example: My name was Evole and I was part of the yolk family who lives at the top of the hill. I will always knock before shouting the names of the people who live there.

Next, Miss White told us that we had to go on an app called my storybook. My storybook is for childrens that can combine their drawings or any creative object into the page.

Then, I had to make a story I made up called how friends get together. My story talks about Evole and Nina getting along together as friends and facts about how people get along with each other.

Lastly, I had to write down the story text. I said “Once upon a time there was a girl called Evolve that was lonely with no friends. She started a new highschool called Henderson ”. For the first paragraph.

I enjoyed doing this task. I did well at writing down the story text of hat happened. I need to improve on adding more information about the story called how friends get along together.
