SSR Selfie

This week I learned about SSR Selfie.

SSR stands for Sustanied Silent Reading. Sustained silent reading is where students read silently read in school and out of school.

First I had to choose a book and had to read the book for 10 minutes. For example  : I picked a book called goosebumps and I decieded to read it for 10 minutes.

Next I had to write down the main characters that were in the book that you talked about. The main characters were Sonny, Slappy, Sarah, Mum, and Dad.

Then I had to write down the illustrations of the person who wrote the story in words. For example : the illustrations is Rob Lieber.

Lastly I had to list 3 new words I don’t know in my own meanings. For example : I picked dangerous and said “Dangerous is something bad that happened often”.

I enjoyed doing this task. I did well at listing 3 words in my own meanings. I need to improve on writing something down basic.

Evaluation about Animal Testing

This week for reading I learned about Evaluation and Animal Testing.

Evaluation is to look and to think about both sides of an issue. Animal testing is a type of experiment that uses animals to study the development and progress of diseases.

First I had to think about what is animal testing in a group. Animal testing is a type of experiment that uses animals to study the development and progress of diseases. For example : Someone that works for animal testing will catch an animal and test them of the diseases.

Next I had to also think about what evaluation is. Evaluation is to think about both sides of an issue. An issue is an important topic or problem for a discussion. For example : I will talk about cats and dogs but it might be important.

Then I had to talk about whether animal testing is good or bad in a group. For animal testing I said it’s bad for them to get tested because they could be affected by it and will die and get sick.

After I had to write down the yes and no of animal testing. I said ” Yes they should do animal testing because animals like cats or dogs need to live like humans and be healthy”. For now I said ” No they should not do animal testing on animals because they would die and get sick”.

Lastly, I had to write down my opinion about animal testing. I had to write down 3 sentences. For the 3 sentences I said for one of them ” I think that it’s bad for them to get animal testing because drugs that are tested on animals also have low rates which is 92 percent and it’s dangerous for them”.

I enjoyed learning about animal testing and evaluation. I did well at writing down my opinion. I need to improve on adding more details about animal testing.

SSR Selfie

This week I learned about SSR Selfie.

SSR stands for Super Silent Reading. Super Silent Reading is where you read quietly for 15 or 10 minutes.

First I had to choose a book and read for 10 minutes. For example  : I picked a book called Drama to write about.

Next I had to write down the main characters that were in the book that you talked about. The main characters were Matt, Callie, Liz, and Raina.

Then I had to write down the illustrations. The illustrators was Raina Telgemeier.

Lastly I had to list 3 new words I don’t know in my own meanings. For example : I think a rocketship is a type of vehicle.

I enjoyed doing this task. I did well at listing 3 words in my own meanings. I need to improve on writing something down basic.

Evaluation

This week I learned about Evaluation.

Evaluation is to think about (to consider) sides of an issue. For example : yes, no, and my opinion.

First I had to talk about in a group if we should do animal testing or should not be doing animal testing. I said “No, they should not do animal testing on animals because they might die and get sick, which is a bad thing because the animals like spending time with their owners and at the zoo”.

Next I had to write down my yes. I said “Yes they should do animal testing because the animals and humans want to live because they want to enjoy their own time with their owners”.

Lastly, I had to write down my opinion. For my opinion I said “I think that it’s bad for them to get animal testing because drugs that are tested on animals also have low rates which is 92 percent and it’s dangerous for them”.

I enjoyed learning about animal testing 2. I did well at writing down yes, no, and opinions. I need to improve on writing more.

I can see So I can infer

This week I learned about what I can see so I can infer.

I can see where you see something with your eyes. For example  : A cup is what you see. I can infer where you describe something.

First I had to get a partner to work with so I can infer. For example : Cattaleya would be my partner and we work together.

Next I had to find 3 type of pictures. It could be an animal, human, or an object. We picked animals. The 3 animals were a Kangaroo, Koala, and a Puppy.

Then I had to look with my eyes at what I could see out of the picture. For example : I can see baby turtles So I can infer they are going to the sea.

Lastly I had to write 1 I can see and 5 I can infer. For example : I can see that the koala is closing its eyes. So I can infer that the koala is sleeping.

I enjoyed picking 3 pictures. I did well at writing. I need to improve on writing down something much better.

SSR Selfie

This week I learned about SSR Selfie.

First I had to pick a book to read for 15 minutes. I picked Drama because I think it’s a great story to read for 15 minutes.

Next I had to write down what happened in the story. For example : Callie loves theater. And while she would totally try out for her middle school’s production of Moon Over Mississippi, she’s a terrible singer. Instead she’s the set designer for the stage crew, and this year she’s determined to create a set worthy of Broadway on a middle-school budget. But how can she, when she doesn’t know much about carpentry, ticket sales are down, and the crew members are having trouble working together.

Then I had to list three new words with their meaning in my own words. For example : Mississippi : I think Mississippi is counting numbers but in a different way.

Afterwards, I had to write down who the author or illustrator was. For example : The author is Raina Telgemier.

Lastly I had to write down who the main characters were. For example : The main characters are Callie, Lizz, Matt, Raina, and her friends.

I enjoyed doing this task. I did well at reading the book for 15 minutes. I need to improve on reading the book for 16 minutes because I will learn more about it.

Summarising Template

This week I learned about summarising.

First I read a book called beekeeper. I had to write down 20 important words about the story. For example : Beekeepers, honey, bees, jack dad, honey bees, collect, hives, flowers, honeycomb, wax, shapes, frames, nectar, sweet, water, wings, special veil, calm, and cut.

Next I had to pick out the 6 important words that are in the 20 important words. For example : Beekeeper, honey, bees, special veil, jack’s dad, and collect.

Then I had to highlight the important words. For example : beekeeper.

Lastly I had to write 4 types of sentences that flow with the 6 important words. These are one of my sentences that flow the 6 important words. Jack’s Dad wears a special veil to protect themselves because they might get stung. This week I learned about summarising

Summarising

This week we learned how to go through a guided discussion.

In partners we had to talk about what the book is about. The book is about honeymakers that collects honey from the hives.

First we had to talk about what summarise is. Summarise is to say something in fewer or less word. We also had to talk about what keywords is. Keywords is a important words to unlock a new information.

Next we had to comment and answer the questions that are on the template. For example : Predict what you think this text might be about. I was thinking its about someone taking care of the bees & my partner was thinking someones dad’s is a beekeeper that looks after bees.

Lastly we had to go over and over by answering the question before reading.

I enjoyed doing this task. I did well at asnwering the questions. I need to improve on trying to asnwer the question right.

Evaluation

This week I learned what an Evaluation is.

Evaluation is when you have to think about two sides of an issue.

First I had to discuss with my group if we should allowed pets on trains or buses. I say no because they might not behave or be a respectful pet to other people who are on the buses or trains.

Next I had to read information about Furry companions allowed to ride Auckland trains and buses. It says in the story that Anne Batley Burton suggested there could be a special carriage for pets in trains and buses.

Then I had to write down some information about why we should allow pets on transport or why we should not allow pets on transport.

I enjoyed learning about why we should allow pets on transport and why we should NOT allow pets on transport. I did well at explaining why we should allow pets on transport. I need to improve on explaining more information about why we say yes and no.
