This week for inquiry we learned how to understand the meaning of matariki and to identify the stars of the matariki. For example : Matariki is a type of celebration.

The meaning of matariki is the Maori name for the cluster of stars also known as the pleiades it also are tiny eyes or eyes of god” and is celebrated in june when a small group of stars called Pleiades rises above the horizon, bringing the old year to a close and starting a new year.

First, we had to discuss in a group what matariki is and means. The meaning of matariki is the mario name for the cluster of stars also known as the pleiades it also are tiny eyes or eyes of god” and is celebrated in june when a small group of stars called Pleiades rises above the horizon, bringing the old year to a close and starting a new year.

Next, Miss Tele’a told us to make a copy of a google slide that talks about matariki and to do some activites on the google slide. We had to pick 2 or 3 actijvites to do. The options were to research the history of iwi and hapu who first settled near a river, lake or wetlands closet to you, find a calender of tides and explore ideal swimming and fishing times, design a contraption to collect rainwater, find out what contributes to air pollution, learn the best time to grow vegetables, find a recipe using fruits and berries, set personal or learnign goals, in Google Docs, write a memoir of a loved one OR remember loved ones we have lost (this could include pets), or to plan an event with loved ones.

Lastly, I picked “In Google Docs, write a memoir of a loved one OR remember loved ones we have lost (this could include pets)”. I wrote down memories about my nana. I said ” My favourite memory about my wonderful nana is that she used to look after me when I was little and play with each other. The sad part I’m gonna miss is her smile that she always has on her face and bathing me when I was born. I love the way she talks to me about stuff our family doesn’t know. My Nana always goes somewhere and I ask her “Nana can I come” and she said yes. She is the bravest, and kindest person in the world.”

I enjoyed doing this task. I did well at explanning what matariki is. I need to improve on adding more activites.

This my document about memories about my nana!

Maths Problem

This week for Miss White’s Math’s group we learned about how to answer word problems and showing how we worked (solved) the problem.

Math’s Problem is a mathematical problem is a question that needs a solution and can be represent, analyzed, and possibly solved, with the methods of mathematics.

First, we had to discuss in our math group what maths problem is. Math’s Problem is a mathematical problem is a question that needs a solution and can be represent, analyzed, and possibly solved, with the methods of mathematics. For example: 2000+204 = 2204.

Next, we had to answer some questions and write down how I worked out the answers. For example : I used multiplication. 6 x 4 = 24, 6 x 20 = 120, 24 + 120 = 144.

Then, Miss White showed us a google slide called Maths Problems. In the google slide it shows us that we had to solve or fix the problem so our teacher knows which one we are stuck on. For example : if a box of pencils contains 24 pencils, how many are in 6 boxes. I got stuck on this one until I realised I had to use addition, multiplication, division, and takeaways.

Lastly, when we solved all of the questions there was this next slide and we had to find a partner to do it with. I had to write down easy, hard, or medium maths questions for my partner to answer like I’m challenging him.

I enjoyed doing this task. I did well at typing the questions for my partner. I need to improve on showing them more information of how I worked it out.

Basic Facts Boxes

This week for maths I learned about Basic Facts Boxes.

Basic Facts Boxes is a type of Math game that you sort out the answers. For example: 1+1=2.

First, I had to figure out which one I want to do for math’s. The options were plus, minus, and multiplications. I picked minus because I was thinking that it is the best way to start off with. I also had to pick another option. The options were, random, and order. I picked order because I think the same as minus.

Next, I had to start off by figuring out the answers for the math’s. The minus was easy for me. For example: 20-1= 19, 19-1=18.

Lastly, I had to press check when I finished answering the math problem. For example: when you finish answering your problem of math’s you had to press check to see if you got some wrong, some correct.

I enjoyed learning about basic facts boxes. I did well at answering the problems or solving the problems. I need to improve on moving on to the multiplications.

My Storybook

This week for reading we learned about an app called My Storybook.

My Storybook is an app that is for children that combines drawing, stickers, photos, voices, text to use language, and creativity in a multi-page book.

Purpose of a glossary? A purpose of a glossary is a section of a book document, or presentation that provides definitions and explanations for specific terms or words used within the text.

What are definitions? Glossary definitions is a type of statement of meaning of a word, phrases, or symbol.

First, we had to think in a group what glossary means. Glossary is an alphabetical list of words relating to a specific subject, text, or dialect, with explanations: a brief dictionary.

Next, we had to sort each section into alphabetical order by using procedures glossary, healthy eating glossary, and food group glossary.

Then we had to choose any verbs or adjectives word to explain something. For example: I picked Hydrated, and it is an adjective. Hydration is an important process in many other applications.

Lastly, we had to show the teacher our work to make sure we understood and got it right.

I enjoyed learning about glossary. I did well at sorting out each section into alphabetical order. I need to improve on adding more words.

Keywords & Goldilocks

Last week for Reading we learned about keywords & Goldilocks.

Keywords is an important word that unlocks a new information. For example: I got a key and unlocked a new information called she. Goldilocks is a type of girl that walks in the forest but then found a house.

First, I had to read a book called Goldilocks. In the book it talks about how Goldilocks went for a walk in the forest and found a house and broke into the house. She realized that there were 3 bears living in the house. For example: I saw a house and started to break into it because I was hungry.

Next when I finished reading the book about Goldilocks, I had to highlight the keywords that are important. One of the keywords in the story was porridge because it tells in the story that she ate the first porridge, second porridge, and third porridge.

Lastly, I had to create a DLO called “Key Word Hunt”. I had to explain what keywords and phrases are & I had to also write notes in the boxes about things I think are important in the text, details, and what’s in the pictures and possible keywords.

I enjoyed reading the story called Goldilocks. I did well at highlighting the keywords in the story. I need to improve on that I need to add more details to the DLO.

Rhyme

After Miss White showed us an example for ing. She said, There once was a king. It had a big ring. They all started to sing. And other words like that.

Lastly Miss White told us to make a Poem using rhyme or perfect rhyme. I said for my poem ” There once was a Bling. That had a good Sling. It made everyone Spring. They play outside with a Thing.

I enjoyed learning about Rhyme & Perfect Rhyme. I did well at using ing for the poem. I need to improve on using ed next time.

Burbes & Runs

This week I learned about Burbes.

Burbes is where you start with a jump squat and get into your starting position with both of your feet flat on the floor. get into a blank position. Do a Push-up on your toes and to jump back to your feet & repeat.

Evaluation is to look and to think about both sides of an issue. Animal testing is a type of experiment that uses animals to study the development and progress of diseases.

First I had to think about what is animal testing in a group. Animal testing is a type of experiment that uses animals to study the development and progress of diseases. For example : Someone that works for animal testing will catch an animal and test them of the diseases.

Next I had to also think about what evaluation is. Evaluation is to think about both sides of an issue. An issue is an important topic or problem for a discussion. For example : I will talk about cats and dogs but it might be important.

Then I had to talk about whether animal testing is good or bad in a group. For animal testing I said it’s bad for them to get tested because they could be affected by it and will die and get sick.

After I had to write down the yes and no of animal testing. I said ” Yes they should do animal testing because animals like cats or dogs need to live like humans and be healthy”. For now I said ” No they should not do animal testing on animals because they would die and get sick”.

Lastly, I had to write down my opinion about animal testing. I had to write down 3 sentences. For the 3 sentences I said for one of them ” I think that it’s bad for them to get animal testing because drugs that are tested on animals also have low rates which is 92 percent and it’s dangerous for them”.

I enjoyed learning about animal testing and evaluation. I did well at writing down my opinion. I need to improve on adding more details about animal testing.
